The Record Industry.com was founded, by multimedia artist, Sir Real, as a resource for independent artists / labels by independent artists. It is a collective work brought to you through the efforts of many artists, musicians, tech heads and readers. So what's the point? Well, contrary to what the public is being force-fed by "the industry spin doctors", peer to peer technology, in conjunction with various media compression formats (ie: MP3, Vorbis, VQF, DivX, etc...) and e-commerce solutions, offer a low cost (to no cost) distribution method for any and all artists that wish to utilize it.
For illustrative purposes : The MP3 is a compressed sound format that is NOWHERE NEAR CD QUALITY. At 128k you are looking a 10:1 compression ratio (which, basically means that 90% of the actual sound IS NOT there). For that reason, it is a revolutionary lo-fi, promotional vehicle for the indie artist and label. Are you going on tour ?
