It seems like just yesterday that the two soon-to-be founders of The Discouraging Word found themselves in a small, pleasant Japanese restaurant. They had ordered various Japanese delicacies -- tekka maki, negimaki, and shumai -- and were near the end of a three-hour wait for their food when, suddenly, spontaneously, they broke into song.
But not just any song, mind you. Not "America the Beautiful." Not "Smells Like Teen Spirit." But that finest of American anthems, "Home on the Range."
boomed forth from their lusty throats and filled that small space -- their waitress picked both of them up and threw them out the front door.
