pulled from site's meta descriptionLAS VEGAS, NV--The San Diego Sockers may have been down, but they were never out. Sockers captain Aaron Susi scored the game's opening goal and assisted on the next, setting the tone for a game in which San Diego regained a measure of control in the Professional Arena Soccer League's Pacific Division, beating the Las Vegas Legends 7-5 at the Orleans Arena. Susi finished with two goals and an assist as San Diego (4-2) won their fourth straight, all on the road, to move within a game and a half of the division-leading Legends. The Legends (6-1) came into the Sunday afternoon showdown with an undefeated record and the top scoring offense in the PASL, averaging twelve goals per game. The Sockers quickly throttled Las Vegas' attack, taking a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter. The scoring began with Susi calmly slotting a back post feed from Anthony Medina at the 12:16 mark. Just over three minutes later the captain found second-year striker Raymundo Reza on right wing, who finished his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0 San Diego. Medina closed out the scoring with a rebound goal to put the Sockers in control after fifteen minutes.Eduardo Velez converted a two-on-none breakaway, poking home a Kraig Chiles assist, to make it 4-0 Sockers early in the second, a goal countered by Vegas' Ivan Campos (two goals) for a 4-1 halftime score. San Diego got the opening goal of the second half as Chiles came alive, scoring first on a power play corner kick, then on a Reza assist for his team-leading eleventh goal of the season. The Legends made a late push, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter, but their scramble from behind came up short as Susi knocked home his second goal of the game to put San Diego far enough ahead to hold off Las Vegas and secure the win.The victory was the 32nd straight for the Sockers against Pacific Division opponents and moves San Diego within a game and a half of Las Vegas in the divisional standings. The two sides will meet again on January 11th at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. The Sockers return home to begin a two-game homestand on Saturday, December 21st when they take on the Turlock Express. Kickoff is set for 7:05PM at the VVCC. The first 250 fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game (benefiting Rady's Children's Hospital) will receive an exclusive ticket to a postgame concert by Carlsbad teen singing sensation Cody Lovaas. Tickets are available at (866) 799-GOAL or via Axs at www.sockers.com.
