As principal of Sauria Associates, Ted has provided consulting services to companies including Enkubator, F5 Networks, IBM, Methodologie, and Newdea. Prior to starting Sauria Associates, Ted worked at Taligent, Apple Computer and IBM. Over the course of his career, Ted has spanned a variety of roles, from technical lead to chief technology officer. He has implemented XML processing, handheld computing, compound document architectures, and object-oriented databases in his fifteen years experience. At IBM Ted was the technical lead for the IBM XML4J parser which served as the initial code base for the Java version of the Apache XML Project's Xerces parser.

Ted is a member of the Apache Software Foundation. As one of the core developers of the Xerces-J XML parser, he helped to found the Apache XML project. From 2001 to 2003, Ted was the chair of the Apache XML project.

Xerces-J (repackaged by IBM as XML4J), one of the most popular pieces of Apache Software, has won awards from JavaWorld and Java Developer's Journal. Many commercial software products including IBM's Websphere Application Server, Websphere Studio Application Developer, and BEA's WebLogic application server incorporate the Xerces-J parser.
