SAIC Inc. is in the business of scientific, engineering, systems integration and technical services and solutions. The services are provided to all the agency branches of the United States military, in the United States Department of Defense (DoD), the intelligence community, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and other United States Government civil agencies. It also provides services to corporate and other enterprises in the commercial sector. The company has three operating segments, government, corporate, and others. The operating business segments of the company, providing services to either government or commercial clients, depend on the nature of the customer, the requirements as per contracts, and the business units' service environments governed by regulations. During the fiscal year 2007, contracts from government generated 88% of the company's consolidated revenues.

SAIC Inc. was incorporated on August 12, 2005, and was founded on the belief that the people, who are responsible for the growth of the organization, should own a stake in the company and get benefits accrued from the company's success. Till this present day, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of the company, Ken Dahlberg, along with the present generation of the company employee owners, continue to have that belief. In November, 2006, the company acquired AETC Incorporated. AETC provides remote sensing systems and services to Department of Defense of the US Government. The company sold its majority-owned subsidiary, ANXeBusiness Corporation, ANX, on October 27, 2006.

Government Segment Activities

SAIC provides a range of services to the state and local government agencies of the US, and also to some foreign governments. In here, SAIS offers technical services and solutions, which consist of:

For homeland security and defense, the company helps the federal, state, local and foreign governments and private-sector customers in protecting the US and allied homelands, providing them with system integrations services, mission-critical support services, and development of technical solutions.

The US military personnel, and the weapon and support systems are supported by the company. The company provides logistics and product support solutions, which enhance the operational and readiness capabilities of these specific clients. As for its systems engineering and integration services, the company provides the required solutions. Under this segment, the company provides necessary assistance for its customers to design, manage and protect information technology networks and infrastructure. In providing its services in research and development, the company develops new technologies, having applications in national security, intelligence and life sciences, etc.

The company revenues, from its government client sources, accounted for 98% of its total consolidated earnings during the fiscal 2007.

Commercial Segment

Under this, the company activities are for its clients in the commercial market sector, where the company provides consulting, systems integration, and outsourcing services and solutions. In providing such services, the company often utilizes it experience gathered from its service to the Government segments. The main activities under this category are technical consulting, and Information Technology support. In this case, the applications are mainly in oil and gas exploration and production, IT infrastructure management for utilities, and data lifecycle management for pharmaceuticals.

The revenues generated from this segment accounted for 7% of the company's total consolidated revenue during the fiscal 2007.

Corporate and Other Segment

This segment includes the operation of the real estate management subsidiary of the company Campus Point Realty Corporation (CPRC), the elimination of intersegment revenues and costs, and "corporate expense items not billable to its government customers, referred to as unallowable expenses."
