- Location: RailDreams has moved to our new location in Michigan's beautiful and historic Keweenaw Penninsula. Located in the Western Upper Penninsula of Michigan, the area is known as the Copper Country, this area was the site of America's first great mining boom, in the 1840's even before Sutter's discovery of gold in California. It is also the site of some of the first narrow gauge railways in the U.S. pre-dating Colorado's famous lines by several years. RailDreams is housed in an over 100 year old commercial building (built in 1888 just after the great fire of 1887 nearly totally destroyed Lake Linden). Lake Linden is in the heart of the Keweenaw National Historic Park, and was a stamp and saw mill town for the famous Calumet & Hecla Mining Company. The town is approximately 10 miles north of Houghton City, the home of Michigan Technological University, on M-26 (Calumet Street).
