This page is maintained by Theodric Technologies LLC. It lists all known sites on the Internet that publish information about broadcast radio stations. Although we strive for accuracy, the maintainers of this list are not responsible for the information pointed to by these links. While there are several other extensive lists of radio stations available on the World Wide Web, radio-locator is one of the longest running resources for this information.
History
Back in the early months of 1994, WMBR was experimenting with a new type of Internet information server called the World Wide Web. WMBR had been posting program schedules and other information on "Techinfo", MIT's precursor to Gopher, and former General Manager, Ert Dredge, was in the process of converting those documents to HTML and making them accessible through MIT's Web server. Having a list of links to other stations seemed like the obvious thing to do, and the original version of "otherstations.html" had about 20 links on it. Most of the links were to other radio stations, but there were some other links as well (such as the ubiquitous link to Adam Curry's MTV site).
Browsing through other radio stations' pages revealed that there were some other lists of stations as well. In particular KZSU, WSRN, WOOD, and the Mammoth Music Meta site all had extensive lists of radio station web pages. At first, we felt that we did not need to duplicate effort, so we just put in links to these other fine lists. However, as the web grew, more and more stations were publishing on the Web. These lists became more and more discordant, and we felt that there should be one master list of all the radio stations on the Internet. So we compiled all the lists we could find and created a alphabetical list with one line of text per station. We also sent the word out by posting on various radio related newsgroups and mailing lists.
About the Listing of Stations
Radio-Locator offers a directory of radio station information, including technical data and contact info, but does not include radio station schedules, radio show broadcast details and direct access to listening.
