OTBC.org nurtures Portland-area open tech startups.

Open Technology Business Center

The Open Technology Business Center was established in Beaverton, Oregon in January 2005 as a publicly-funded economic development effort.

The OTBC was created to house and assist promising startup companies based on technology that is "open" in some way -- that is, not a completely closed and proprietary system.

The city of Beaverton founded the OTBC with $1.2 million of city funds. Member companies pay below-market rent, and the entrepreneurs who run these companies receive professional advice and coaching, as well as access to discounted services and educational events.

Services for entrepreneurs

The OTBC provides inexpensive shared office space, coaching and support from startup veterans and other business experts.

Entrepreneurs who become members of OTBC also receive help with refining their business plans and honing their presentations to investors, customers and others. Members participate in peer-review sessions with other OTBC entrepreneurs.

Other benefits of joining OTBC include membership in the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, Software Association of Oregon, and AeA (American Electronics Association). Members can purchase Microsoft development tools at very low cost, and receive a discount if they choose to join the Kauffman Foundation's FastTrac TechVenture® entrepreneurship program.
