The year was 1892 and several important events took place in our country. The Union added the 44th State called Wyoming, the industrial revolution witnessed the patent on a petrol engine designed by Rudolf Diesel, a new President of the United States was elected with the ticket of Grover Cleveland and Adlai Stevenson and a bank called the Bank of Escanaba opened for business.
Today, the Bank of Escanaba is the Northern Michigan Bank & Trust with offices in eight locations throughout the Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
In 1971, Northern Michigan Bank & Trust formed the first one bank holding company in the Upper Peninsula. On May 1, 1974, Northern Michigan Corporation opened a new State Bank in Marquette and on April 23, 1975 they received permission to open yet another State Bank in the City of Kingsford.
