MoveTheNeedle

MovingTheNeedle is a cliche people use to talk about whether to do something or not. The needle in the saying is the indicator on the "results meter" for the folks who are making the choice. Spending resources moves the needle in the wrong direction, receive a return on investment moves the needle in the right direction.

The multiplier is important. A 1000X return on investment is better than a 10X on investment. But the multiplier is not the whole story. If the opportunity isn't large enough, even an amazing multiplier won't "move the needle".

For example, investing $.01 to get a $1.00 in return provides a 100X multiplier. The multiplier is great, but such a tiny opportunity isn't even worth thinking about for most folks.

Bottom line: If the results aren't likely to be significant "MoveTheNeedle", then forget about it as soon as possible so that you don't miss the opportunities that can move the needle.

$10,000,000 invested that returns $10,000,000 isn't worth it because the multiplier is only 1X (you get back exactly what you put in)
$.01 invested that returns $10.00 isn't worth it even though the multiplier is 1000X
$10,000,000 invested that returns $1 billion moves the needle
