If you have a child starting school for the very first time this year, you’re probably just as nervous about it as she is. And there’s a good reason. Kindergarten is an exciting transition year and your positive attitude is very important because this will be your child’s introduction to elementary school and a first opportunity to learn basic math and reading skills, not to mention a first look at routines and the expectations of group learning.
Whatever you do, be sure to communicate that learning can be fun! As a parent, you are your child’s first teacher. So also keep in mind, the skills he learns from you before hand– how to get along with others, follow directions and listen to directions – will help her start the year off right.
And you need to be there for her every step of the way. You are the key to how well he adapts to this new learning experience. Make it as enjoyable as you can for both of you.
