OK, so what about tourists or people just travelling through Bangkok? What are the options available? Well, it really depends on where you are staying. Bangkok has many fine hotels and some of the very best hotels in the world are located right here in Bangkok. The Oriental, The Regent, The Shangri-La, The Dusit Thani, The Peninsula and The Sofitel (pictured here - but it never actually opened due to poor construction standards...) are all five star hotels that rank right up there with the very best in the world. Most five star hotels will not allow bar girls in and don't try and pull a fast one explaining that she is just a friend because the staff in these hotels will pick her occupation straight away and quietly laugh at you for foolishly suggesting otherwise. Obviously, there are stories about people sneaking girls in back exits etc. but in the better hotels that have good security and that sort of carry on won't be too easy. Most of the five star hotels are located down by the river which although distance wise is close to Patpong, it's a bit of a journey to Sukumvit where the bulk of the farang oriented industry is.
