In 1958, ten men stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base formed a credit union to recognize and serve the unique financial needs of Kirtland’s military personnel. As a member-owned military financial institution, the credit union filled a need among the military community not being met by the traditional banking institutions. From these humble beginnings, Kirtland Federal Credit Union has prospered and expanded to include civilian personnel assigned to KAFB, US Reserve Forces, members of the Air and Army National Guard throughout New Mexico, defense-related Select Employee Groups (SEGs), veterans groups, as well as military retirees.

Our original purpose and commitment remain as vibrant and vital today as it was so many years ago. We continue to serve those who serve.

Kirtland Federal Credit Union offers a complete line of financial products and services via the internet, in person, and via telephone. As a financial cooperative, our members are both owners and customers. Profits are returned to our members through lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and lower fees. This cooperative ownership structure is the key difference between a credit union and a bank.
