Kent State College of Public Health

Kent State University established its College of Public Health in 2009 to help students meet the current and projected shortage of public health professionals in Ohio and across the nation. It is one of only two public health schools in Ohio, and because of that is an important resource for students in the state who want to pursue public health careers.

Students can choose from a variety of different public health degrees depending on their academic level and amount of interest in the field. Undergraduate students can pursue a Bachelor’s in public health or an 18-credit hour certificate of public health.

Students working toward their Bachelor’s in public health can choose to specialize in one of these three areas: health care administration, health promotion & education or environmental/sanitation. For those who already have a major and want to diversify their education with a certificate in public health, the 18-credit hour program is a great way to gain an understanding of the key aspects for preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health.

Graduate students enrolled in the College of Public Health can pursue either a Doctoral or Master’s in public health. Those who are interested in an MPH degree can specialize in any of the following areas:

Epidemiology
Health Policy and Management
Social and Behavioral Sciences
Environmental Health
Biostatistics

Students pursuing their Doctoral or Master’s in public health also have the opportunity to augment their coursework with dynamic internships that can be done either regionally or internationally. Internationally, Kent State’s College of Public Health has a presence in Geneva, Switzerland, Haiti, and many other places.

Kent State’s College of Public Health aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in all areas of the public health industry. The College provides a multifaceted curriculum that combines academic, theoretical training with practical, hands-on experiences in real worksite settings. Its faculty and staff have training and expertise in all different public health areas, allowing students to benefit from a truly dynamic academic experience.
