Description
About the Institute
The Institute of European Affairs was founded in 1991 as a self-governing body devoted to the study of Irish policy on European integration. The Institute provides a unique forum where politicians, public servants, representatives of business, agriculture, the trade unions, the media and academia, can discuss and evaluate the long-term options for Ireland within Europe. Membership of the Institute provides access to this new resource and is of particular relevance to those who need to understand EU issues and processes and those who are charged with strategic planning in business or public affairs.
An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Charles McCreevy, Dr Patrick Hillary, John Bruton, Mary Robinson, Albert Reynolds, Pat Cox, Richard Burke, David Byrne, Padraig Flynn, Ray MacSharry, Micheal O'Kennedy, Peter Sutherland.
The Treaty of Rome (1957), signed by European leaders to promote recovery through Democratic co-operation, laid the foundations of an ever-closer union amongst the peoples of Europe. The completion to the Single European Market in 1993 deepened the economic relationships among the member states of the European Community and set the course for European Union.
