How to improve AboutUs website pages
- NOTE: The purpose of this help topic is to provide ideas to improve article content, not to give instruction on wiki formatting.
edit Qualities that make up a good article
- The best way to improve a website article is to make it informative, interesting and not a repeat of what's on the actual website. A good article provides all of the information a reader may want to know before they go to the actual site.
edit Description
- As a general rule, keep this down to the most important facts and features about you and your website. One or two paragraphs can go a long way. It will give readers a taste of what they can expect from your website. Do not telegraph everything on your website, and do not over-sell the features.
- In simple conversational words: What does the site offer?
- What's neat about this company or website?
- What's the coolest feature of this website?
- If you're the owner are there any future plans that you can share?
edit Logos/Pictures
- Adding a logo or other images as examples of your website, services or anything else related is a fabulous way to liven up your AboutUs page. Remember, you don't have to confine your logo/photos to the "Logo" heading. Play around with insetting your logo into the description or provide a photo gallery, complete with captions. For some more ideas and how to format your images, see Help:Adding and working with pictures
edit Language
- Tell the world what languages are supported on your website
edit Address/Contact
- Make sure your information is up-to-date. Even if you choose not to include an address, it's a good idea for readers to have a way to contact the website/business, so leaving a phone number or email address in addition to links to your site just makes sense. If you are worried about your email address being taken by spammers, see Help:How can I protect an e-mail address.
edit Additional Information
- This is good place to give readers a little bit more. Some examples of things that have sparkled on AboutUs include:
- Historical information. How did your website/company get started?
- Reviews or testimonials. What are some of your customers saying?
- Awards. How has your website/services distinguished themselves from the competitors? How have you been honored by the people or other companies you serve?
- Don't forget you can always add sections or change the headers. (More information on how to format headers can be found here.) Who says you can't have an "Additional Information" section as well as a "Testimonials"? In fact, multiple headings/sections might help your AboutUs page distinguish itself from other pages.
edit Related Domains
- Here's a good place to tell others about sites that you think are relevant. So if a person is looking at this site, what other sites might they want to check out. This may include sites that are related in any number of ways. Try to keep the number of related sites to a maximum of 30. If you see more than 30, then try to trim it down to the MOST relevant.
edit Categories
- This is a great feature of AboutUs. Categories allow this website to be listed among others of its kind, giving readers a way to look things up by topic. Just add relevant categories to the list. If there are more than 30 categories, also try to cut it down to only the MOST relevant. Extra clutter makes it more difficult for readers to find what they're really looking for.
