Title
The Houston Zoo: a center for endangered species conservation, wildlife education, and family fun
Description
The Zoo is made up of moving parts. It is essentially a small city. We have over 4,500 permanent residents, our animals, for which we provide housing, meals, medical care, and yes, even education! In addition, we have 1.5 million guests each year; they enjoy refreshments, perhaps a meal, some pleasant conversation, and entertainment. Our dedicated staff ensures our Zoo is up and running for the safety and well being of our residents and guests.
The Houston Zoo is planning an exciting new exhibit to take you to the heart of Africa! The first phase of this magnificent experience is scheduled to open in Fall 2008. Get ready to visit deepest Africa!
The adventure will begin as you cross a typical African bridge over large crocodiles. A lush tropical landscape will reveal some of Africa’s most endangered and rare species, including gorillas, chimpanzees, hippos, leopards, mandrills, colobus monkeys, okapis, bongos, red river hogs, monitor lizards and many species of colorful birds. A park headquarters, with helpful rangers, will prepare you for your safari into the deepest jungles of Africa.
