General Home Improvement’s Don’ts to Remember

What you do for your remodeling project is important, but so is what you don’t do. Sometimes homeowner’s concepts can negatively affect the project instead. When you come up with a new idea, it is wise to ask yourself if you will be helping or hurting your project.

8 Don’ts to keep in mind:

  1. Don't spend too much time to decide: Make every single decision you need to make such as paint, trim, faucet selection, among others before the work starts in order not to cause delays.
  2. Don't keep changing your mind: You will change your mind about something along the course of the project, but do not make it a practice because every time you change your mind there will be added costs, not to mention delays.
  3. Don't purchase your own materials. We all know that a builder is going to mark up the cost of materials and may pass the added cost onto you but the hassle of ordering and what come with it before your order is delivered will not fall on you.
  4. Don't forget to include a contingency fund in your budget. Most of the time you will find that the work you wanted done costs more than your budget because the budget for a project is oftentimes not realistic and only a contingency fund can pull you through.
  5. Don't let kids and pets stay in the project. The people working in your home will not like having your pets and kids around, also it is not safe to have children or animals around construction.
  6. Don't disrupt work. The time the people working in your house spends talking to you is time away from their work. Ascertain if the conversation you keep having with them is important if not then better just let them work in peace.
  7. Don't work without a proper design. Do not start a remodeling project without a design in place especially a detailed floor plan since a lot of elements interacts in a space. Hire an architect, an interior designer, maybe you found a talented builder who can help you come up with a good plan.
  8. Don't hesitate to include a cleaning service in your plan. When all the construction is done, do not hesitate to hire a professional home cleaning service. And since they have all the equipment needed, your new place will be spick and span in no time.
