About Sherrod Brown
Since voters in Ohio's 13th Congressional District first sent him to Washington, D.C. in 1992, Sherrod Brown has earned a reputation in Congress as a respected voice in health care, trade policy, job creation, education, the environment, energy policy and issues that matter to working families in northeast Ohio. He is Congress' leading fighter for social and economic justice.
As the most senior Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, Sherrod successfully fought to lower the cost of prescription drugs by helping close loopholes used by brand-name companies to prevent price competition. He has sponsored legislation to allow for prescription drug importation, while working to lower the cost of prescription drugs here at home. Seniors' groups in Ohio have honored Sherrod for sponsoring bus trips to Canada that allow consumers to get prescriptions drugs for up to 80% less than the price in the U.S.
Sherrod led a five-year effort that increased funding for international anti-Tuberculosis (TB) programs from zero to the current $75 million. In addition to TB, Sherrod worked against the pharmaceutical industry’s efforts to restrict African countries’ access to life-saving prescription drugs for HIV/AIDS.
