Description
Global Link was established in November 94 and was granted a Public Non-Exclusive Telecommunications Service (PNETS) licence in December 94. With the PNETS licence, Global Link is able to provide local and international value added network services including Internet services.
Global Link has its own T1 (1.544 Mbps) data link to the USA and it is directly connected to one of the largest backbone in the world - AlterNet. Some service providers try to save money by "piggy-backing" other service providers in Hong Kong. That means more than one service provider are sharing the bandwidth of the data link and their users will encounter performance problems when they perform tasks such as FTP or Telnet to sites outside Hong Kong.
We also have another T1 data link to HKIX which makes accessing local sites a lot faster. Without it, data have to route through the international link and back, and that makes it even slower than accessing international sites.
