Dr. Gerber begins by listening to what her patients want and what they can do aesthetically to help to reach their goals. Encouraging them to look in a mirror, she asks what features they don't like...and what they do like. “Listening is so important,” says Dr. Gerber. “In fact it's key to establishing a good doctor patient relationship.”
Patients need to have a realistic view of what surgery will entail, what the results will provide both physically and emotionally and what their financial obligation will be. If major changes need to be made, Dr. Gerber talks about whether it's financially, physically and emotionally feasible to do everything at the same time, or whether to make changes gradually in stages.
