I have been thinking off and on this week about the little things and of course the big things about raising children. I have been thinking about the responsibilities we have as parents and the things that are expected of us. In watching the Food Network over the weekend they had a theme for weddings. This made me think of my own little girl and the possibility of her own wedding. As a father it’s tough to think about giving away your little girl. Tim McGraw’s version hits close to home with me:
My little girl is growing up so fast. Granted she is only headed to the second grade, but now we are getting into the times I can remember growing up. I have memory of times when I was younger, but my memory is more vivid now as we reach this age and the level of her growing. She did tell me the other day that she wanted to be a Doctor and a Mommy, so I don’t think we have to worry about her getting out of school too soon. All we have to do is to figure out how to help pay for it–schooling and the wedding.
No I don’t refer to the incestuous nature of the likes of Chinatown, but merely the reference is to the Orwellian “Big Brother.” I have been saying for a long time that I intend to have a chip placed under the skin of each of my children that can be hooked up to a GPS handheld system that would allow me to know there whereabouts at any moment.
