Freya Design, based in Reading, Berkshire, was established in 2004 by Scandinavian founders Marie Ekerholm (Swedish) and Toril Stanton (Norwegian). They both have two young children and appreciate the difficulty in finding unique, high quality gifts that last longer than last year's craze - something you can treasure your memories in or simply keep your house tidy in style.
Their Scandinavian background comes through in the composition of the designs with the extensive use of natural materials. In Sweden and Norway children take first priority and everyone lives very close to nature. The inspiration they take from their tranquil native countries is expressed in the childlike designs of their products. Simplicity, functionality and style are the essence of Scandinavian design. They are both very creative and have always made things for their homes and gifts for friends.
Marie came to England to study at university. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant she worked as a financial controller but had to give up when her eldest child developed severe eczema and allergies. When her daughter started school she decided to combine her creative flair and business skills and start her own venture. She teamed up with long-time friend Toril and together they have developed an expanding range of innovative designs.
