A recent series of acquisitions has created an "expansion explosion" and taken this Northwest favorite to national prominence. Though started in 1973, the real boom for Fred Meyer Jewelers began in 1995 when it acquired 23 jewelry stores operating under a variety of names in California and Washington. Rapidly following that acquisition came another of Merksamer Jewelers, adding 49 more stores and a national presence with locations from California to Maryland and Washington to Wisconsin.

Then in 1997, sudden growth struck again when 44 Fox's Jewelers in 6 midwestern states were acquired. Most recently (October 1998) Fred Meyer Jewelers acquired Littman Jewelers, an East Coast chain with 123 stores. These acquisitions combined with continuous growth from opening new locations has helped Fred Meyer Jewelers quickly grow to over 430 jewelry outlets in 34 states under the banners of Fred Meyer Jewelers, Littman Jewelers and Barclay Jewelers.
