History

1889 – Orange County, California splits from the county of Los Angeles. Two firms come up to handle issues relating to titles in the new county.

1894 – C.E. Parker succeeds in merging the two companies into one company. The company is named Orange County Title Company, with C.E. Parker as its president. The company is the parent company of current day’s First American Title Insurance Company, the largest division of the First American Corporation. During its early years it had a modest but steady growth though earning a reputation of being diligent, thorough and friendly.

1924 – The company achieves the distinction of becoming the first abstract companies in California to be eligible to issue policies of title insurance.

1948 – Donald P. Kennedy, the grandson of C.E. Parker joins the company and feels the need to expand its business.

1957 – Board of directors approves expansion plan to become a giant in the Southern California Market.

1963 – D.P. Kennedy is named president of the company, by this time the company also changed its name to First American and doing business in 4 states.

1964 – Issues first public offer

1966 – Company is restructured into a general holding company called The First American Financial Corporation.

1982 – First American Title now has presence in every region of the nation.

1988 – Enters Canadian Market

1993 – Company debuts on NYSE on December 3

2000 – The company gets its current name The First American Corporation in May Present Day – The Company now serves in more than 70 countries. The company since 1984 has acquired several companies, which include a home warranty company, a real estate tax service, a credit reporting company and a flood certification company.
