About Jean

Pique Assiette "Stolen from Plate" is the French name for this form of mosiac art. This unique technique has roots in serious folk art traditions in many cultures around the world. It is the art of recycling broken crockery, china, glass and other objects into decorative pieces for the home and garden, cutting individual pieces to form unique patterns, resulting in a one-of-a-kind objet d'art, that creates the intricate designs.

Works are also available on a commission basis. You can create a family heirloom, linking the past with the present using borken treasures in a unique piece crafted specally for you

Artist Jean Stoler studied art in Florence, Italy. This marked the beginning of countless journeys around the world in pursuit of the ultimate visual inspiration. She is a successful fashion and textile designer (and an avid crafter of jewelry and painted furniture) for over 25 years. While traveling in Chartres, France in 1997, Jean visited the home of Raymond Edouard Isisdore, the father of contemporary pique assiette. She felt an imediate connecton to this art form and, thus, found the ultimate inspiration she began searching for many years ago. Jean has since left her career in New York City to devote her time and creative talent to her ultimate passion.
