Title

DSN: The Dissolution Solutions Network.

Description

Who are you, and what is the site all about?

Many people have searched the web looking for dissolution information sources. Our findings are that there are a few places to go. One is operated by a major vendor of dissolution equipment. Another is a publication, with new material every 3 months. This site is a little different than the others. This site is a grassroots level accumulation of tips and techniques to help the dissolution analyst in the areas of troubleshooting and calibration. It is growing weekly! There is also a little information about history, theory, and dissolution in general. The editor of the site is Pamela Scott. During September of 2000, her husband taught himself HTML and posted his notes on calibration and trouble shooting online for his own convenience. As a whim he submitted the site to a few search engines in November 2000. He hardly expected the response which he got. Not only did Yahoo pick it up right away, but also Google, Altavista, Alltheweb.com, DMOZ, AOLsearch, Netscape, Lycospro, and a few others picked it up immediately! Other dissolution sites linked to it as a useful resource. While we don't claim to be experts in all areas concerning dissolution, some things we do know well, such as troubleshooting and calibration problems. So he decided to ask for some help from some others in the field who could offer their input into dissolution solutions, calibration, theory, and problem solving. He also asked his wife to manage the site for him.

The results is the dissolution solutions network. A network of dissolution professionals dedicated to a sharing of collected knowledge in the advancing field of in vitro dissolution analysis of pharmaceuticals.

Here is the current problem that we face...There are a great number of analysts out there who have little to no formal education on dissolution analysis. The reason is that it is a relatively new science, which falls on the border of chemistry and pharmacology. Many chemists do the test with out any understanding of why it does or does not work, what could cause a calibration to fail, or worse?why is the product failing dissolution.
