In the 16th Century the Shirazi Cat, were returned to their home country of Persia (Iran). There, they were not breed as currently known to the Persians, but kept their original shape. This may indeed similar to the Persian cat, but differs in the following points:
The coat consists of two layers, and in some cases can reach a length of 13cm. It should be regularly brushed, but does not go felty as the coat of Persian cats.
The nose is clearly educated and not, bred away as with the Persian cat. The facial expression effect more friendly and the cat has no medical respiratory and eye problems as they are known by many Persian cats.
Shirazi cats are people oriented and very cuddly. They have a strong need for rest, and love to sleep for a long time. Nevertheless, they'd also like to play as any cat else. The Shirazi is suitable for flats and does not require a large area.
Most Shirazis have cream-colored coat and amber eyes. However, there are also other color embossings, such as silver, white or orange.
So far, the race of the Shirazi is not registered in Germany yet. Therefore, there are no Shirazi cats available with pedigree and papers. Only few copies are being bred in Europe by lovers.
In countries such as Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, they are among the most popular breed and are held by mostly wealthy families.
The Shirazi is a proud cat, which give her owner much love and also expected. She loves the children, but they should act responsibly and gentle with with the Shirazi cat.
