CommerceNet is a new kind of entrepreneurial R&D organization combining the best elements of a research lab, startup incubator and public interest initiative. Our mission is to make the world a better place by fulfilling the promise of the Internet and ecommerce. We invest in outstanding people with bold ideas, enabling them to pursue visions outside the comfort zone of research labs and venture funds, and then to benefit personally from resulting commercial success.
We are building a balanced portfolio of initiatives: long-term and short, high-risk and sure thing, never-been-tried and retried at the right time, too theoretical to work and so obvious it must have been tried long ago. Our motto is: find the talent and back it.
Founded in 1994, CommerceNet has been a trusted intermediary conducting industry-wide research and programs that have advanced the commercial use of the Internet. CommerceNet has had a direct role in pioneering some of the industry's first milestones including secure transactions and XML messaging. CommerceNet also founded the Open Network for Commerce Exchange (ONCE), the world's largest business-to-business online trading community.
