Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVS) is among the largest integrated energy companies in the world. Founded in 1879 as Standard Oil Company of California, Chevron Corporation today is headquartered in San Ramon, California and conducts business in approximately 180 different countries. Chevron’s business operations are spread out among North America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australasia.

With business operations that encompass every portion of the oil and natural gas industries, Chevron engages in crude oil and natural gas exploration, development, production, and transportation around the world. As of the end of 2006, Chevron was actively engaged in production and exploration operations in 36 different countries, including the United States.

Chevron refines crude oil into finished petroleum products and chemical products derived from petroleum. Chevron’s chemical business operations include manufacturing and marketing commodity petrochemicals, such as polyethylene, ethylene, and olefins; industrial plastics; and fuel and lubricant oil additives.

Chevron owns and operates a number of transportation interests. Chevron Corporation owns and operates a system of crude oil, refined products, chemicals, natural gas liquids and natural gas pipelines as well as a fleet of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) marine tankers.

Production Capacity

Chevron’s United States exploration and production activities are based in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, the Rocky Mountains, and California. In 2006, Chevron’s averaged daily production was 2.67 million barrels of oil-equivalent. Chevron has contractual commitments in the United States to deliver approximately 281 billion cubic feet of natural gas from domestic reserves through 2009.

Chevron Corporation’s overseas exploration and production operations include various operations in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Indonesia; South America, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, the Netherlands, Norway, Mexico, and other locations.

Additional Business Operations

In addition to its operations related to crude oil and natural gas, chevron also engages in business operations in the areas of mining and power generation.

Mining

Chevron Corporation’s coal mining and marketing subsidiary, The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Co. (P&M), owns and operates surface mines in New Mexico and Wyoming, and an underground mine in Alabama. The company’s mining operations produce and market coal, molybdenum, rare earth minerals, and calcined petroleum coke. P&M controls significant quantities of proven and probable coal reserves in the US, environmentally desirable low-sulfur coal reserves. Molycorp, Inc. is Chevron Corporations’ mining and marketing subsidiary for molybdenum and rare earth minerals. Molycorp Inc. owns and operates a molybdenum mine in New Mexico and a lanthanides mine in California. The company also has an ownership interest in a Japanese company that manufactures neodymium compounds. Additionally, the Company owns Chicago Carbon Company, an Illinois producer and marketer of calcined petroleum coke.

Power Generation

GPG, Chevron's global power generation business owns 15 power assets located in the United States and Asia. GPG is engaged in developing and operating commercial power projects, and manages production of more than 2,334 megawatts of electricity at 11 facilities it owns via joint ventures.

Additionally, the company operates gas-fired cogeneration facilities that produce electricity to support industrial thermal hosts through use waste heat recovery. The company produces steam to use in support of its own operations in the production of heavy oil. The Company also has geothermal operations in Indonesia and the Philippines.

Wholly owned subsidiary, Chevron Energy Solutions (CES), focuses on energy efficiency projects. During 2006, major projects completed by CES included energy efficiency and renewable power installations for US Postal Service facilities and completion of California’s first megawatt-class hydrogen fuel cell cogeneration plant.

Alternative Energy

Chevron Corporation is actively engaged in the development and marketing of advanced energy technologies. The company’s business development portfolio includes biofuels, hydrogen, advanced battery systems, nano-materials and applications for renewable energy.
