Bio Regions

I noticed that someone put SouthWest on my directory page. SouthWest US usually refers to Arizona and New Mexico. I live in NE Nevada near the borders of Idaho and Utah.

I also noticed that Rheanni (who lives in Oregon) and Kachina who lives in SF are also listed as SouthWest.

This seems inaccurate.

I would suggest that a map be developed and numbers used on that map to represent bio-regions. And, that each number match up with a directory. This way people know where on the map the label represents.

When I think of my neighbors, I am more likely to be identified with the North West. However Las Vegas, Nevada could be considered South West.

Wondering if naming regions and mapping them with numbers (ie: Salmon People) is a better direction to move in. Since the field is so new...

I also think the mileage feature that O.net has is pretty nifty. Maybe that's a better way to go.

just some comments.

Julie, if you look at Category:NetworkWeaver:Region you will see the regions we are using (not at all saying this is set in stone, just giving the full context of the decisions made so far). The entire world has been divided into regions in the DMOZ. We are currently using these regions. This decision makes some sense, and at the same time, I would not read too much into the regions on any particular person's page. The person themself might've made an error, or the person adding the category, or who knows what happened. Feel free to fix what you see as wrong. peace, TedErnst

Ted, I checked out the links to bio regions as well as Category:NetworkWeaver:Region. The link to bio regions has no real information or maps with bio regions on them. And Category:NetworkWeaver:Region does not define the bio region. The concept of bioregions is a cool idea and I can see why it's being considered here. However, encouraging posts that are inaccurate and posting links that don't lead to information about the topic are misleading and confusing. As you said, perhaps the person who made the edit made an error. Not sure why someone else is being encouraged to edit my directory page (or the pages of others). San Fran and Oregon are definately NOT southwest. Las Vegas, Nevada might be considered as southwest but not where I live in norteast Nevada. peace, JulieCaldwell

New logo and header

I really appreciate and like the new integrated logo and colorful header. Who ever worked on that -- thank you. It's nice, small enough to not be intrusive and colorful enough to separate the header from the rest of the content. You all are very cool. It was nice to see one of my sugestions manifest. Again, thank you. ~ with appreciation, JulieCaldwell

On my keyboard, it's a shift of the \ key, which is just above enter and below delete, on the very right side. Is it there for you? If someone else sees it in a different spot, could you tell us where it is for you as well. TedErnst
