Driving Home
As soon as I waved goodbye to the guy from Roxbury I hit a pot hole and my battery light came on. My car battery had just disconnected at 30 MPH. I was surprised that I was still driving but it was interesting driving. You could actually watch the strength of the clock display wax and wane as the alternator charged and discharged. I quickly discovered that my car would run as long as I kept it at high enough rpms to have electricity to fire the spark plugs. Perhaps on a country road or in a manual transmission this wouldn't be too hard but driving an automatic in Boston makes things difficult. Somehow I managed to put it in neutral to slow down and use the gas to keep the rpms high. For small slow downs it was easier to just use the brake and the gas as the same time. Many people in Boston must have thought I wanted to race because I would pull to a stop and start revving my engine. For me the finish line was at my front door.
