Cost Per Action

CPA is a term commonly used in web advertising to refer to 'Cost Per Action.' A web advertiser is charged a certain amount only when the customer clicks on the ad AND converts (i.e., makes a purchase). This should be contrasted with CPM and CPC which both require the advertiser to pay even if the consumer fails to make a purchase. The CPA system for advertising is typically more expensive for the advertiser, since he/she only has to pay once he has made a sale.
