Blizzard's most recent game release was World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade™, the expansion set to the company's bestselling, award-winning subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft. Launched in January 2007 in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade sold a record-setting 2.4 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time -- a mark previously held by Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade went on to sell a record 3.5 million copies within its first month. The expansion was launched in South Korea in February 2007 and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau in April 2007, and localization into Simplified Chinese is currently underway in preparation for release in mainland China.
World of Warcraft initially launched on November 23, 2004 in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, with subsequent launches in South Korea, Europe, mainland China, Singapore, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau in 2005 and Thailand and Malaysia in 2007. The game has achieved unprecedented popularity on a global scale, with currently more than 11 million subscribers worldwide. It is available in seven different languages based on the regions in which it is played, and has earned awards and praise from publications around the world.
Currently, the game is free to play in China, as issues are sorted out on making the game legal, and accepted within the Chinese population.
