Description

Bitsplitter

Bitsplitter is a newly formed consulting company focused on implementing early stage prototypes and proof-of-concept systems using open source technologies. My name is Mike Rowehl (resume) and I'm both the founder and the only full time employee. I have some other people that I call in for special projects, but in general I'm the one you'll be talking to if you need something done. My email address and phone number are over on the contact page if you want to drop me a line.

I have a deep understanding not just of the technology end, but of all the issues surrounding researching and ramping up a new project. I have 12 years of experience working with open source projects and using them in production environments. My specialty is pulling together a minimally working system very quickly, which makes sense in lots of situations but isn't the right approach for all circumstances. If I had to sum it up in a single sentence I would say that my specialty is "engaging clients in an experimentation dialog in order to locate the ideal product within the potential solution space under consideration". But that just sounds like a whole bunch of collateral doubletalk, so normally I stick to just saying that I do prototype programming. There really is a whole lot more to it however, because the vision of the prototype needs to evolve and change over time. And the prototype revisions need to be planned in such a way that they draw out the next round of discussion about adjustments and changes in direction. The blending of high level discussion about market positioning and user perception with fine detail work on the design of the prototype itself is something I haven't run across too often, so it is something I tend to brag about. If you think it's the type of thing you could use, give me a call. I'm just coming off a big project now and looking for another challenge.

If you came here because someone told you that there was a package available to do what you want "over at bitsplitter.net", then you probably should be over in the Split Bits Area. Split Bits is a collection of open source software, example scripts, and some commercial software. It's a mix of stuff we've used before, random tools we wanted to release, and existing products which can be licensed or customized. If you pick up something you like, drop me an email and let me know. I love hearing about successful uses of these projects.
