How It All Began...

Whether you're searching for your first piece of Baltic amber jewelry or you are merely a lover of fine things, this website is for you from me, Andzia--pronounced "Ahn-ja" (Annie) in Polish. We hope to show you some of the beauty that inspires people from all around the world to collect beautiful Baltic amber jewelry, the world's most versatile gemstone.

Andzia's Amber began in 1995 over the kitchen table, when she traveled alone to Poland... In 1995, on Thanksgiving day, I stepped off an airplane in Warsaw, Poland. I had never been out of the USA before. Earlier in the year my father had passed away &, so it seemed, had our dream to visit Poland together & walk the streets of the town his mother had come from Bialystok. Restless & grieving since his passing, I decided to take that trip & maybe, somehow, find him, find myself again. I was so excited upon arrival in Warsaw, I forgot the few Polish words I knew & greeted the passport officer with a resounding Spanish "Hola!"

I traveled the country from North to South, East to West. I didn't speak Polish fluently, & often relied on hand signals to impart what I needed.

I found the Polish people have hearts as big as the ocean I had just crossed. I found myself on that journey & often "saw" my father leaning against the train station, waiting for the 3rd class train, in the bitter morning cold with other workers driving a taxicab & talking excitedly with his hands, offering a cup of steaming coffee from a well-used thermos. He had always told me we were the people--hard workers & family loving.

I saw amber in many shop windows in many places I visited. I brought some home as gifts, wrapped tenderly in handmade shawls from Zakopane. I gave the beauties away & always wore an amber brooch. Back home, I began to study the beauty, history, mythology, therapeutic uses & folklore of Baltic amber.

Then I realized...I was hooked...on amber.

Our amber Starry Nights pendant was named after Vincent Van Gogh's famous painting because the sparkle & spirit of this design is so unique, a cross between a flower & a star, or maybe a sky full of stars if you look up & tilt your head just right...

And so the legendary Andzia's Amber was born. Over a decade later Amberjewelry.com has become the premier retail amber jewelry source in the United States.

As a Certified Member of the International Amber Association in Poland, we follow strict guidelines concerning the quality & sourcing of our Baltic amber & sterling silver. Not just our amber jewelry, but also our actual company itself has been granted a Certificate of Recommendation by the International Amber Association headquartered in Gdansk, Poland.

In a marketplace subject to fakes & forgeries, why not stop by & learn how & why our status as a Certified Member of the International Amber Association benefits you?

You'll find a dazzling array of amber jewelry in our online jewelry catalog, from traditional handcrafted amber bead necklaces & amber bead bracelets to edgy, modern designer Baltic amber jewelry.

Our amber jewelry styles stretch from the simple to the sublime & the collection is always evolving. In fact, you never know exactly what you'll find here! (Besides beautiful amber jewelry of course). Both the beauty and the curse of Andzia's Amber is that we carry limited numbers of handpicked designs because we work mostly with small family producers, so if you see something you love, scoop it up because we follow a very "When they're gone, they're gone!" philosophy as Andzia is fond of saying. The upside? No fear of ever having the same thing as anyone else. You may really be the only person in the entire world with that particular design.

Even though Baltic amber is simply beautiful as an object, and one of the most versatile gemstones for use in jewelry, you will find that it is also the history, mythology, science amber contains that makes it even more exotic & sought after. Therefore we are also proud to present our Amber Myths & History pages.

If you visit us, you will also find The Amber Reading Room, a cultural & educational resource & archive dedicated to preserving the wonderful heritage of genuine Baltic amber. Some topics we've explored with the help of various amber experts include:

Images of Baltic Amber, the Living Gemstone in jewelry forms

Excerpt: Baltic Amber: A Chameleon's Tale

Affordable yet deeply original & deeply inspired artistic one of a kind amber jewelry is one of the true pleasures of Baltic amber...

Is there any gemstone more friendly to the artisan's hand than Baltic amber? The versatile beauty of Baltic amber is matched by none as far as we can tell. The gem that seems to come closest in terms of the sheer versatility & folk tradition might be turquoise, turned into all manner of fabulous jewelry by Native American tribes. But even enchanting turquoise, of the rapturous colors, is not suitable for carving or for shaping in quite the same way as amber is, nor does it share the astonishing array of color that is real amber.

Baltic amber is a mighty chameleon. The sheer variety of amber beads alone that may be produced are awe-inspiring. From the precise hand faceted cuts of Lithuanian amber where this craft has been practiced since ancient times to rough nuggets plucked from the sea's edge & left with the beautiful reddish rough amber skin or bark left intact on the outer cortex...

After beads there are countless natural forms used in earrings, pendants, rings- all the usual jewelry items & amulets. In literally every shape one can imagine. But amber can also be carved into art objects, such as chess pieces & small precious figurines of infinite variety. Then there are cameos- as endless as their possible subjects!

Then there are the colors of amber: cognac, cherry, green, light butterscotch, lemon, black, white, speckled, spotted, translucent, opaque... & everything in between! One may even find -very, very rarely- ambers laced with hues of blue or purple. Then there are the kinds of amber- Baltic, Dominican...

It also seems that not only amber jewelry, but the amber itself, seems obsessed with depicting natural forms. What else could explain the magnitude of the the earthy, mysterious lumps, nuggets & geological shapes which we expect to discover from raw amber... but also, a fanciful & seemingly neverending parade of amber animals & flowers of all kinds which are constantly expanding. Amber insects such as butterflies & dragonflies, bees & spiders are beloved motifs of amber artisans...

This one is really awesome. AmberJewelry.com tells the story of how a trip to Poland resulted in a lasting relationship with amber. The website owner, Andzia saw a lot of amber being used in jewelry there and was struck by its beauty, buying some for herself and as gifts for family and friends. Returning to America, found out more about this semiprecious stone and was hooked. AmberJewelry.com is her online store providing exquisitely crafted designs based on this passion. (View Comments)

Not to be out-done by the incredible images from the other feature, the WikiPage for BowWowsMeows.com has it's own unique personality surrounded by their images. This small factory specializes in creating cookie cutters in the shape of popular dog breeds. More though that just doggie cookie cutters, the WikiPage also shows some fabulous photos of some of their other products, from pet costumes and clothing to pet bakeware. (View Comments)
